Ceuta & Melila: (IINA): The Muslim Committee in the occupied Melila city has accused the Spanish government of preventing the teaching of Islamic studies in the city’s educational institutions when it turned down the list of teachers who would undertake the teaching of this subject to about 4,800 Muslims students. The chairman of the committee, Ahmed Mawh, has said that the Spanish Ministry of Education and Culture has made it a condition that the teachers should obtain an equivalent certificate as per the requirement of the educational system in Spain. He said he regarded this condition as a ruse used by the Spanish authorities to deny the Muslims students knowledge in this subject, contrary to an agreement that was reached in 1992 for the inclusion of this subject in the curricula of the schools. It may be noted that Ceuta and Melila are Spanish occupied islands with predominant Muslim population.
